Our date palm plantation was planted in 1959, as these pictures prove.
By 1989 we had long stopped stripping the dates with combs and used mechanical means to shake them off.

As with many other crops grown by Israeli farmers, our very success was our downfall, too much fruit and a slight change in the consumers' taste and the only thing those trees are good for nowadays is shade.
