Madame d'Estrée and one of her Sisters
Quite naughty, those 16th century ladies.
Gabrielle d'Estrée, duchess of Beaufort was born in 1571, became the mistress of Henri IV of France and died at the age of 28.
|The "Mémoires secrets de Gabrielle d'Estrée" were probably written by one of her friends. The royal bastardline of Vendôme was her legacy to mankind. Her son, César Duke of Vendôme, participated 1626 in a plot against Richelieu, was captured and freed three years later. He was accused of conspiracy again in 1641 and fled to England.|
