The heart

pEbers 854

Beginning of the secrets of the physician: The knowledge of the functioning of the heart and the knowledge of the heart [itself].
There are vessels in every body part. When some physician, some Sekhmet priest, some magician lays his fingers on the head, on the back of the head, on the hands, on the location of the heart, on both the arms and both the legs, then he will feel the heart, as there are vessels in every body part and it (i.e. the heart) speaks at the tip of the vessels in all body parts.
There are four vessels in both nostrils. There are two carrying mucus, and there are two carrying blood.
There are 4 vessels inside both temples which carry therefore blood into both eyes. And all suffering of the eyes comes into being through them and because there is an opening to both eyes. When water leaves them, then it is the iris-bodies which excrete it. Or another statement: It is the sleep in both eyes which causes this.
There are 4 vessels which divide towards the head. Their connection is at the back of the head which therefore causes the excretion of tallow. This is their (i.e. the vessels') product reaching the outside.
When the air which enters through the nose, enters the heart and the lung, then it is them (i.e. the vessels) which pass the air into the whole belly.

As concerns that of which the ears turn deaf, these are two vessels which cause it by leading to the root of the eye.
Or another statement: As concerns that of which the ears turn deaf, these are [vessels] which are in both temples when there is buzzing in the ears, [i.e.] that the beheader demon makes the air flow into the man, and he has to receive the breath [of the demon].

Concerning the overflooding of the heart or the "fluidity": The pulse is weak in all body members.
Concerning the weakness of the heart: It is a vessel, "receiver" by name, which causes it. This one it is which carries water to the heart.
Another statement concerning the whole eye: When he has become deaf and his mouth does not open, then it emerges that all the body members are tired because of what the heart has taken in.
Concerning the weakness of the heart which arises in the heart: It is the xAsf condition on the border between lung and liver. And it emerges that his vessels are benumbed and collapse because of the heat stupor of the anterior vault (?). Have to cease.
There are six vessels leading to both arms, three to the right and three to the left, leading to his fingers.
There are six vessels leading to both his legs, three to the right leg and three to the left leg, until they reach the sole of the foot.
There are two vessels to both his testicles. They it is who carry the sperm.
There are two vessels to the buttocks. One to one of the buttocks and the other to one of the buttocks [too].
There are four vessels to the liver. They carry water and air to it and therefore give rise to all the ailments befalling it by overflooding it with blood.
There are four vessels to the lung and the spleen. They carry water and air to them, as well.
There are two vessels to the bladder. They carry the urine.
There are four vessels opening to the anus. They carry and create for it water and air. Moreover, the anus is open to every vessel of the right side and left side of arms and legs and is flooded with excrement.

There are two vessels in the man for his nape. There are two vessels in the man for his front. There are two vessels in the man for his eye. There are two vessels in the man for his eye-brow. There are two vessels in the man for his nostril. There are two vessels in the man for his right ear, the breath of life enters through them. There are two vessels in the man for his left ear, the breath of death enters through them.

They (the vessels) go together to his heart; they separate at his nose and come together at his anus. If a disease of the anus is caused by them, the feces determine its course, and it is the vessels of the feet which die first.

There are twelve vessels in the man for his heart. It is they which lead to the different places of his body.
